I certainly agree with that. Music can move mountains. It can bring up new friendships. Ease someone’s heavy heart. Soothe someone’s soul. Discover one’s talent. Shout out one’s anger. Confess emotions. Inspire someone to dream big. Make history. Share a story. Music can create many things – especially for emotionally disturbed youth. My dad told me once that musically inclined kids are those emotional kids. (I was just 13 years old when he told me that.) They pour out their angst through their composition or through listening to their type of music. That is why I can consider myself as a music lover.
Ever since, I am so interested to music. Browsing through one of my childhood photo albums, I saw myself playing the flute using my mom’s roller brush. I am seventeen and up to now, I am still in love with music. (But no more roller brush, I have my guitar already!)
I have listened to all genres of music from my childhood up to my adolescent age. From abc’s and nursery rhymes to pop music like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, Westlife, A1 (Yup, boybands and pop icons. Name it. I know it. And have listened to it.) to 80’s music like those songs in my dad’s “cruising love songs” cd.
Suddenly, my taste of music had changed when I turned grade 5. (can’t remember what age I was that time, maybe 12-13 years?) I started listening to Incubus. Yes, Drive was my first favorite alternative song. I became so addicted to rock music since then.
And the rest was history.
By now, I am listening to a lot of emo-punk songs. Emo-punk bands write the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard! They write everything about adolescent age. I can relate to most emo-punk songs, and also alternative rock. I find guys who are band members more talented than those who dance. (No offense to dancers, and those who are offended.) I see rockers as persons that are more talented because they play instruments and compose their own songs. They put music into their powerful words and influence those who listen to them.
What keeps me busy right now is improving myself through my studies and of course, my music. I study my lessons during weekdays and learn guitars during weekends. Music makes me feel relaxed and it removes all my worries. I wanna learn more about music. I want to know how to play guitar better. I want to compose my own songs. I am currently a member of a band as a vocalist but I still want to play guitars, and more instruments. I am dreaming to have my band aired on tv and our songs played mainstream and on the cd players of every youth. Haha! (I’m only dreaming anyway, no one can stop me!)
As what Kris Roe have said, music is a powerful thing. It inspired me to discover my talents. It helped me to have more friends. It accompanies me during my darkest days. Music became my narcotic, which makes me so addictive. Besides music, I have no vices.
Thanks for all the bands that have become my inspiration. Without their music, I would nave no narcotic. (Nyaha…! Hope you’d understand what I mean.) Thanks for all my friends… I love you all….
Thanks to God almighty up there who created all the best things in life. And it was for free. Thanks dude!
